Rhodes Island Holidays
Rhodes, or Rodos as it is also known, is the largest of all the Dodecanese islands and is one of the most popular destinations in Greece for vacations.
It is famous for many things, such as the cosmopolitan lifestyle, the Castle of the Knights, the Valley of the Butterflies, and of course, the Colossus of Rhodes, the 100 foot statue that once stood guarding the entrance of the harbour, and which was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
The city, harbour and capital of Rhodes now welcomes all visitors arriving by boat with statues of two dears, in the place where the legs of Colossus once stood.

The old city of Rhodes still has connections with the medieval atmosphere created by the presence of the Castle of Knights, and the Palace of the Great Magestrus.
On the west side of the city, you should find the opportunity to see the remains of the old Acropolis of Rhodes, and also visit the Archaeological Museum and Byzantine Museum. Visitors to Rhodes will never be short on things and places to see. Rhodes has some wonderful tourist resorts, and there are a huge number of splendid beaches scattered all across the coast. Many of these beaches are ideal for a variety of watersports, and many also have a wide choice of accommodation and entertainment establishments situated close by.
In the north of Rhodes, a popular holiday destination is Ialyssos. As well as having a magnificent beach, it is also close to the region of Ancient Lalyssos, where you can see the Temple of Athena. The areas of Kremasti and Paradise are also very popular tourist destinations, and it here that you will be able to visit the unique "Valley of Butterflies".
The coastal resort of Faliraki on the south of Rhodes is one of the most famous resorts of the island. It is both famous and infamous for the nightlife and entertainment that you can find here. Afandou, with it's long beach, and Lindos with the ancient Acropolis are two other popular destinations, both set amongst a landscape of extreme beauty.
Found around the villages of Rhodes are many old churches and Byzantine monasteries, where you can see and admire the beautiful frescoes and religious works of art, There are also several Folklore and Archaeological museums that are well worth visiting.
Another popular attraction on Rhodes is the famous aquarium of the city. It is one of the largest and most interesting in the world, and is an ideal place to visit if you are travelling with young children.
