Elafonissos Island Holidays
The small island of Elafonissos is probably one that doesn't immediately spring to mind as a famous Greek Island, such as Santorini or Mykonos.
Located off Cape Malea in the south of the Peloponnese, the island lies between the mainland and the island of Kythira. Though this island is relatively small, measuring just 19 sq.km, and maybe not as glamorous as some of the others, it is well worth visiting if you get the chance.
The island is one that is very popular with Greeks, and is not one that has embraced mass tourism on any kind of scale. The island's population is just over 300 residents, but during the summer months, numbers of tourist arriving can reach more than 3000 per day, with many of them bringing their cars.
This island is perfect if you want to get away from the tourist stigma attached to some of the other Greek Islands.
Elafonissos is also where you will find some of the best beaches in the whole of this part of Greece. Simos is a huge bay of white sand, and offers visitors a truly beautiful beach on which to relax and enjoy the crystal blue waters.
The island offers a selection of restaurants and tavernas where you enjoy a very tasty meal, especially fish that is caught on a daily basis. Elafonissos is ideal for your summer travels, and it's charm and simplicity is something that you will appreciate the moment you arrive.
Some places of interest when on Elafonissos include the church of Agios Spyridon, which was built on a small seperate piece of land that connects to the island by a small bridge over shallow waters.
