The county of Lassithi is situated on the east side of Crete and is considered as one of the most popular holiday destinations which caters for every type of holiday and vacation.

This oddly named gorge is named so because during the Minoan period, the dead were buried here, as the people believed that if the dead were buried at this very beautiful place, they would continue to live here in the afterlife too. In Kato Zakros you will find the Minoan Palace with the Kings’ tombs, the 3rd largest archaeological site in Crete.

Other areas of great tourist interest are the hamlets of Agia Fotia, Ferma and Goudouras, where you will find the famous forest of palm trees Vai and the Kapsa gorge. As with other parts of Crete, Lassithi is home to some beautiful beaches that are ideal for those hot summer months. You can swim in wonderful beaches such as Kato Zakros, Mirabello, Ammoudares, Analipsi as well as the beaches eastern of Ierapetra up to Makrygialos and the islet named Nisi.
